Get Involved

Your voice matters! There are several ways to make an impact and ensure your concerns are heard by lawmakers. Whether you choose to testify, call, or submit a public comment, your participation helps shape decisions that affect our communities.

1. Testify at a Hearing

Speaking directly to lawmakers is a powerful way to influence decisions. Here’s how to sign up if you want to testify virtually (you don’t need to register if you plan to testify in person):

Step 1: Create an account by clicking the link above.
Step 2: On the day of the hearing, log in and sign up to testify virtually—registration opens two hours before the hearing begins.
Step 3: When giving your testimony, be sure to include:

  • Your name (and spell out your last name clearly).

  • Where in Montana you live.

  • The bill number and whether you support or oppose it.

  • Your reason for supporting or opposing the bill.

  • How you want lawmakers to vote.

Keep your statement clear, respectful, and focused—every voice makes a difference!

2. Call the Capitol Switchboard

Calling is a quick and effective way to make your voice heard. The Capitol Switchboard is open Monday–Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and staff can take your message to pass along to lawmakers.

Dial 406-444-4800 to leave a message for your legislator.
✅ When calling, be ready to provide:

  • Your name and where you live in Montana.

  • The bill number and whether you support or oppose it.

  • A brief reason why you feel this way.

  • A clear request for lawmakers to vote FOR or AGAINST the bill.

Your message doesn’t need to be long—just clear and direct. A simple call can make a big impact!

3. Submit a Public Comment

If you prefer to put your thoughts in writing, submitting a public comment ensures your opinion is officially recorded.

Find the bill or issue you want to comment on.
Write a clear, concise statement about why you support or oppose the bill.
Submit your comment through the participant account linked above.

Public comments are a great way to share personal stories and perspectives that legislators might not otherwise hear.

Every action counts! Whether you testify, call, or submit a comment, or attend a lobby day (see below), your participation strengthens our democracy. Get involved today!
