2019 Legislative Action

Under the four categories that MontPIRG promotes; supporting higher education, protecting consumer rights, engaging young voters, and protecting our beautiful Montana environment, we decided that we wanted to share what we’re currently working on at the University of Montana campus in Missoula. The bills outlined below highlight our work on campus and what we are trying to promote in the 2019 Montana Legislature. Here we will also be updating the progress of the bills as they make their way through the Legislature!

SB 152

There are several reasons why removing the 10 year sunset on the 6-Mil Levy makes sense. First, with 70 years of support, it is clear that Montanas endorse this funding mechanism. Next, removing the sunset will help stabilize MUS funding which is vital for a more efficient system. Finally, we can save the state money by not having to put the Levy on the ballot.
