JOB TITLE: Student Organizer

HOURS: 15 hours/ week

COMPENSATION: $560 - $650/ month (Depending on experience)


ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

The Montana Public Interest Research Group (MontPIRG) is a student directed and funded non-partisan organization dedicated to affecting tangible, positive change through educating and empowering the next generation of civic leaders.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Student Organizer will work out of our campus office in Missoula, Montana. They will work directly with MontPIRG’s staff, board of directors, and volunteers. Occasional travel will be necessary to fulfill the expectations of this position. You won't be tied to a desk, you'll meet lots of people, and you'll make change happen at the grassroots level.

The primary work of our Student Organizer is to help the organization grow in our capacity to create “positive, tangible change” by recruiting and retaining volunteers. They will create and execute a plan to bring more volunteers into the organization that stay and grow in their leadership with the organization over time. Volunteers are vital to the health and longevity of our organization which is why the work to recruit and support them is such a large priority for MontPIRG.

Another project for this position will be in our work to gain additional financial support for the organization. We are ambitiously looking for more opportunities to bring in additional funding to help us grow larger, train more people, and achieve bigger goals. This will include reaching out to current funders and helping attract new donors.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Construct/Edit, Improve and Execute a Volunteer Recruitment Plan

    • Continuous Volunteer Recruitment, Retention and Training

    • Connecting over the Phone and In-Person with Current Volunteers

    • Presenting Volunteer Opportunities in front of Classes

    • Tabling at Events to Recruit New Volunteers

    • Attending Group Meetings to Pitch Volunteer Opportunities

    • Developing New and Innovate Ways to Bring Volunteers Onboard

  • Meeting with New Volunteers to Determine Strengths, Areas for Growth, and Best Opportunities for them to Engage in our Work

  • Volunteer Database Management

  • Fundraising support

  • Outreach to current or lapsed donors

  • Fundraising event planning and turnout

  • Regular meetings with executive director and other staff members

  • Other duties as assigned

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Student Organizer must be hardworking, on time and dependable.

  • The Student Organizer must be fun and energetic. They must be able to energize tired volunteers with their own high level of excitement and excite people about our work.

  • The Student Organizer should have the flexibility to adapt to ever changing events and organizational needs.

  • The Student Organizer must have strong people skills and be able to work with a diverse group of students and community members

  • The Student Organizer must be well organized and able to keep a schedule.

  • The Student Organizer must be individually driven to accomplish goals without substantial prompting.

  • Having past experience in organizing is a benefit

  • The Student Organizer must share a passion for the work and the causes MontPIRG works to advance.

  • Familiarity with Google Drive, Google Docs, and Databases
